Sandy Cajas is a 2015 Latina of Influence named by Hispanic Lifestyle. Sandy is being recognized for being advocate for Latino Businesses for over 20 years.  Hispanic Lifestyle’s 2015 Latinas of Influence will be recognizing Sandy and her fellow Latinas of Influence during a luncheon held in their honor on at Latina Conference 2015.

Sandy Cajas graduated from Chaffey Community College in Rancho Cucamonga. She then continued her education through enrolling in an exclusive program offered in Apparel Manufacturing at Cal Poly Pomona, and by studying International Trade & Interior Design at Long Beach City College (LBCC).

In later years, Ms. Cajas graduated from Notre Dame’s Non-Profit Management Training; an exclusive program hosted by The United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (USHCC). Sandy is also a proud graduate of The National Hispanic Chamber Leadership Academy, an exclusive program at The University of Chicago.

Sandy has taught Spanish for Business at Long Beach City College, and has also taught fashion history at Brooks College. In the process, she has developed course curriculums for several colleges.

She has served in many Community organizations such as EMPLEO, TBAC, CALTRANS, Small Business Committee, BIZFED, Saint Mary Community Hospital Community Board, Department of General Services, Small Business Council and The Inland Empire Advisory Board.

Currently, Sandy Cajas serves as President & CEO of the Regional Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (RHCC) and has founded the Regional Hispanic Institute (RHI). This Institute was created with the mission of giving entrepreneurs an alternative for life preparation and life-long learning by developing and implementing initiatives and educational campaigns that awaken and nurture their entrepreneurial spirit. This is done with the focus of mentoring students from the California State University system, and an emphasis on being the bridge between the corporate and student community.

Since it’s inception, the RHI’s guiding principal was to unify the ever-growing community of Latino leaders in California. The RHI seeks to harness the skills, education, and resources of the existing Latino professional community, in order to assist the next and upcoming generation of Latino leadership.

Ms. Cajas also owns the Diversity Marketing Group, an agency that aims to create multicultural programs, events, and fundraisers.

As these organizations continue to work on increase the visibility of the Latino community, they also seek to promote an image of diverse professionalism, and highlight the economic, political, educational and social impact that Latino professionals are having in Southern California and across the nation.

Sandy lives in the beautiful city of Long Beach California along with her father, daughter, and granddaughter. She loves her family dearly.

Sandy loves the phrase “Follow your dreams, think about all the people who said it would never happen, and go out and prove them wrong!”

Si hay alguien que hace válida la famosa frase “cuando se quiere, se puede”, es Sandy Cajas, una mujer que confiesa haberse graduado a los 37 años de edad y que ahora dirige exitosamente la Cámara de Comercio Regional Hispana en Long Beach, una organización fundada en el año 2000 que se enfoca en ofrecer recursos y servicios a los negocios hispanos.

“Llegué a Estados Unidos cuando tenía 12 años, procedente de Guatemala. Soy orgullosamente guatemalteca”, dijo Cajas acerca de sus raíces. “Más tarde me casé con un músico mexicano y viví en México por muchos años hasta que me di cuenta que lo que hacía allá no me apasionaba, por lo que decidí regresar”, recordó Sandy, quien añadió que se propuso terminar sus estudios ingresando al Chaffey Community College de Rancho Cucamonga, de donde se graduó como diseñadora de modas… a los 37 años.

Sandy no se detuvo ahí. También estudió en Cal Poly Pomona y en Long Beach City College, así como en otros programas de liderazgo y administración.

Su carrera profesional la llevó por varias empresas, incluso a tener su propio negocio poniendo en acción lo que había aprendido como diseñadora de modas y de interiores. “Fue allí cuando me di cuenta de las barreras que hay para las personas que quieren abrir un negocio, como por ejemplo la obtención de un préstamo”, señaló Sandy. Esa inquietud la ayudó más adelante a enfocar sus energías para ayudar a otros, lo cual se vio materializado cuando puso en marcha la Cámara de Comercio Regional Hispana de Long Beach, donde por más de 15 años se han dedicado a capacitar a futuros empresarios y ayudar a otros a hacer crecer sus negocios.
“Uno de los objetivos es prepararlos para que puedan obtener contratos con el gobierno. Aquí les ayudamos a obtener la certificación que necesitan para lograrlo”, comentó Cajas, quien señaló que los empresarios solo pagan una cuota de membresía de 250 dólares por un año, lo que les da derecho a participar en los diferentes programas de la organización.

Sandy menciona que la experiencia le ha enseñado a identificar los principales errores de los negocios principiantes, “el más común es no tener un plan de negocios, o tenerlo pero no ponerlo en práctica”, dijo la experta, quien predica con el ejemplo puesto que también atiende su negocio llamado Diversity Marketing Group, “donde me dedico a crear páginas sociales y a la coordinación de eventos y relaciones públicas. También ayudo con el diseño y la mercadotecnia al negocio de ‘landscaping’ de mi papá y mi hermano”. Sandy Cajas es una mujer de negocios de tiempo completo.
