New Mexico Department of Cultural Affairs announced today that Anne C. McCudden has been appointed executive director of New Mexico Historic Sites and will begin in April of 2025 in her new role.

“With more than 30 years of experience managing historic sites and cultural institutions, Anne brings a wealth of expertise in leveraging community and professional relationships to further the vision of New Mexico Historic Sites,” said Debra Garcia y Griego, cabinet secretary for New Mexico Department of Cultural Affairs (DCA). “Having demonstrated a strong track record of mission-driven, strategic leadership, I am thrilled to begin working with her.”

As Executive Director, McCudden will lead the division’s preservation, management, and operations of eight historic sites located throughout New Mexico including Bosque Redondo Memorial at Fort Sumner, Coronado, Fort Selden, Fort Stanton, Jemez, Lincoln, Los Luceros, and Taylor-Mesilla.

“I am so pleased to have been chosen to be part of the DCA team in New Mexico working with their storied historic sites,” McCudden said. “As a museum professional, I am keenly familiar with the museums and historic sites under the agency’s purview and have admired their efforts for years. To now be part of that work is an honor and a privilege.”

McCudden has worked in a variety of positions within the museum field over the last twenty years. She was the director at the Seminole Tribe of Florida’s Ah-Tah-Thi-Ki Museum, the Women’s History Park in Miami, the Children’s Museum in Boca Raton, and currently serves as the executive director at the Thomasville History Center in Thomasville, Georgia. She has been a board member of the Florida Association of Museums, American Association for State and Local History, and The Association of Tribal Archives, Libraries, and Museums. McCudden graduated from Loyola University, Chicago in 1992 with a Bachelor of Arts in History and in 2002 she received her Master of Arts in Anthropology from Florida Atlantic University in archaeology.
