Goya Foods Donates 36,000 pounds of food to Feeding San Diego and the Imperial Valley Food bank

Goya Foods donates 36,000 pounds of food to Feeding San Diego and the Imperial Valley Food bank as part of the Goya Gives ‘Can Do’ campaign and in the name of Goya retailer Food 4 Less.  The donation is part of the first installment of the 1.5 million pounds of food (1.25 million meals) raised over the course of six months that will go to Feeding America and will be distributed to families and individuals throughout the United States.

“The Can Do campaign is one of the many ways that Goya gives back and helps to bring people together to do good for our communities,” said Bob Unanue, President of Goya Foods.  “We are grateful for the work of our local food banks who have the means to distribute good food to those who lack the access to nutritious, affordable and culturally appropriate meals.”

“Food 4 Less is committed to helping end hunger in the communities we serve,” said Vanessa Rosales, Food 4 Less Director of Corporate Affairs. “As part of our Zero Hunger Zero Waste initiative we have embarked on a journey to eliminate hunger by 2025 and working alongside Goya Foods we are helping to move that needle.”

The ‘Can Do’ campaign is a yearlong series of consumer product promotions that was launched in June 2017 and ends June 2018.  Each month throughout the course of the year, Goya has featured a different product that consumers can purchase to participate in the overall donation.  For every GOYA® product purchased during the designated month, Goya will donate additional products to Feeding America. For more information about Goya Gives and the ‘Can Do’ campaign, please visit, www.goya.com/goyagives.

ABOUT IMPERIAL VALLEY FOOD BANK
Imperial Valley Food Bank Imperial Valley Food Bank (IVFB) is an independent, non-profit charitable corporation, created and operated for and by residents of Imperial Valley with the purpose of feeding those in need living in Imperial County.  The food bank was established in 1991 after a college professor and his students identified the need for a food pantry in Imperial County and took action. The class began distributing food from a garage, and over the years, in response to the apparent needs of Imperial County residents, IVFB grew in size, structure, and purpose.  Thanks to rural development grants from the United States Department of Agriculture in partnership with the County of Imperial, IVFB now operates within over 12,000 square feet of warehouse and office space at its facilities in the perimeters of the city of El Centro, serving an average of over 20,000 individuals in need each month.
