2017 Latina of Influence | Lupita Sanchez Cornejo

Hispanic Lifestyle is pleased to recognize Director of External Affairs for AT&T Lupita Sanchez Cornejo a 2017 Latina of Influence. Ms. Sanchez Cornejo along with our entire list of 2017 Latinas of Influence are invited to participate in Hispanic Lifestyle’s 2017 Latina Conference taking place April 5 – 6, 2017 in Ontario, California.

In Hispanic Lifestyle’s video interview, Lupita shares her background growing up in Southern California, working with elected officials and community service.

Lupita Sanchez Cornejo is the Director of External Affairs for AT&T overseeing legislative and community affairs for the Greater Los Angeles region. She is responsible for executing local strategies that achieve corporate legislative and regulatory objectives, presenting company positions to external stakeholders in key issue areas and managing community partnerships with non-profit organizations, philanthropic and corporate social responsibility and consumer advocacy communities. She heads a team that works with policymakers across the Los Angeles region on AT&T’s new technology deployment and infrastructure investment. For 16 years, she has been a valuable part of the AT&T family company coordinating major modernization projects, delivering collaborative results in support of the company’s public policy agenda, and facilitating crucial broadband network investment and upgrades during a time of unparalleled transformation and tremendous growth.

Lupita Sanchez Cornejo

Prior to joining AT&T, she served as a senior legislative strategist in the Riordan mayoral administration serving as Assistant Deputy Mayor for Legislative and Intergovernmental Affairs, where she was a member of the Mayor’s executive team. In her role as Assistant Deputy Mayor, she was responsible for oversight of the Mayor’s local legislative agenda, city council relations, community affairs as well as key liaison to the Latino community. Lupita’s public service career began while she was in high school beginning with an internship for then-Los Angeles Mayor Tom Bradley.

Recognized for her leadership and community involvement, Lupita was named one of La Opinión’s Mujeres Destacadas. She was named Corporate Leader of the Year by the National Latina Business Women Association. In 2013, she was recognized at the Inaugural event of the University of Southern California’s Latino Alumni Spotlight recognizing her achievements.  In 2014, the Women of Color STEM Conference honored her with one of their highest awards. In 2015, she was named Mujer del Año by the Regional Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and Regional Hispanic Institute.

Lupita is a graduate of the University of Southern California, with a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science and a Master’s degree in Public Administration. In 1994, she was named to USC’s Order of Troy for her academic excellence, leadership and extraordinary service and commitment to the University of Southern California’s campus community. She is a former NALEO State Legislative Fellow, a graduate of Coro’s Leadership Southern California, a regional issues leadership-training institute, HOPE’s (Hispanas Organized for Political Equality) Leadership Institute, and Leadership Los Angeles.  In 2014, she completed the Global Latina Executive Leadership Program, in partnership with the USC Marshall School of Business.

Lupita lives in the City of Los Angeles, with her husband Jose, their 7-year old son Esteban, their 6-year old daughter, Alexis, and their rescue dogs Lola and Jackie O.
