3:30PM – Want to Get Media Ready?

Monica Trasandes

Latinx issues are very much the subject of media stories right now, but are those stories inclusive enough of actual Latinx people? This training empowers advocates and everyday people to feel comfortable telling their stories in engaging and compelling ways.

Equipped with best practices gleaned from more than 30 years of experience at GLAAD, we take participants through the basics of media structure and how to tell their stories in traditional, online, and social media outlets. Then we do a quick one-on-one mock interview, to ensure participants leave feeling confident and ready to make the most of media opportunities.

About the trainer:
Monica Trasandes was born in Montevideo, Uruguay, but grew up in California. She earned a B.A. in International Relations from U.C. Santa Barbara and an MFA in Creative Writing from Emerson College. In her 11 years at GLAAD, she has done 50+ interviews on local, national and international news programs and has trained over 100 members of the LGBTQ community in the United States and abroad. Monica has worked as a reporter and as a magazine editor and is also a playwright and author whose novel, “Broken Like This,” was published in 2012 by Thomas Dunne Books/St. Martin’s Press.
