TRAVEL | Great Combinations A GMC Yukon Denali, Food and the Bay Area

submitted by Richard Sandoval

I tell people who ask, that I was born in Southern California, but grew up in the Bay Area. So anytime I get the opportunity to go home I take it. I love the BayArea. The food, the weather, the smell of the ocean and the historical sites. In many ways it’s the place where I go to charge my creative batteries.

On a recent visit to scout locations for an upcoming conference in the Silicon Valley area, Hispanic Lifestyle visited Taqueria La Veracruzana a family owned and operated restaurant that serves Mexican food.  We had tacos, enchiladas pollo, chile rellenos, and quesadillas. If you like spicy, you are in the right place.

Next on the stop was the new Apple headquarters “Campus 2”, you know the one that looks a spaceship.  It is a hard to tell what it looks like from the ground, but they do have a visitor center where you can get a great view of complex and also pick up some products.

Our fast two day trip included visits up and down Lombard Street, cruising around Fisherman Wharf, crossing the the Golden Gate Bridge to the city of Sausalito and the climbing streets around Nob Hill.  Our mode of transportation was a 2018 Yukon Denali. It fit the five of us comfortably and more than enough power to tackle the city’s steepest hills.

Lombard Street Facts
Lombard Street is known for the one-way block on Russian Hill between Hyde and Leavenworth Streets, where eight sharp turns are said to make it the most crooked street in the world. The design, first suggested by property owner Carl Henry[4] and built in 1922,[5] was intended to reduce the hill’s natural 27 percent grade,[6] which was too steep for most vehicles. The crooked block is perhaps 600 feet (180 m) long (412.5 feet (125.7 m) straightline), is one-way (downhill) and is paved with red bricks. The sign at the top recommends 5 mph (8 km/h). The segment normally sees around 250 vehicles per hour, with average daily traffic reaching 2630 vehicles in 2013. During peak times, vehicles have to wait up to 20 minutes to enter the Crooked Street segment, in a queue that can reach Van Ness Avenue.
