Latina of Influence | Anna Araujo

Anna Araujo is a 2015 Latina of Influence named by Hispanic Lifestyle. Anna is being recognized for her commitment to improving the lives others in the community.  Hispanic Lifestyle’s 2015 Latinas of Influence will be recognizing Anna and her fellow Latinas of Influence during a luncheon held in their honor on at Latina Conference 2015.

Anna Araujo is currently the Chief Professional Officer of The Boys & Girls Clubs of East Los Angeles.  In this position Anna oversees the administration and operations of afterschool sites in the communities of unincorporated East Los Angeles and surrounding areas.  Working closely with the Board of Directors, Anna is responsible for developing and managing fundraising efforts, marketing, communications, programming and overall vision for the clubs.  During her tenure, the average daily attendance has increased from 70 youth a day to over 300 a day and annual membership has grown exponentially since 2002 from 400 to 2,500. In 2006, Araujo co-founded the East Los Angeles Coordinating Council, a collaborative of 45 CBOs, elected officials and law enforcement agencies, focusing on crime prevention through a united effort to provide services and resources to community members.  Additionally, Araujo served on the Steering Committee of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Los Angeles County Alliance as the Chair of the Marketing Committee and serves as an Ambassador Emeritus for the Afterschool Alliance, a national advocacy organization.  In 2012, she was a City Scholar Fellow and completed the Annenberg Alchemy program.

Prior to BGCELA, Anna worked as an independent producer/writer and in collaboration with her partners at Higher Ground Entertainment, wrote and produced the documentary, Pancho Gonzalez: Warrior on the Court for Spike TV (2005) and PBS (2006).  The documentary was nominated for an ALMA Award in the category of Best Documentary in 2006 and garnered an Imagen Award as part of the PBS Voces Series.

Araujo joined Higher Ground Entertainment after fourteen years with NBC4, Los Angeles where she served as NBC4’s Community Affairs Manager/Producer.  In this position, Araujo was responsible for developing and managing community partnerships, creating relationships with community influencers in the Los Angeles market with a focus on Latino initiatives, and also producing station public service campaigns and community organization mini-documentaries. During her tenure at NBC4, Araujo held positions as Producer, Advertising & Promotions and Supervising Producer of Late Night with Dr. David Viscott,   Prior to NBC4, she held positions at KTTV11, KTLA5 and Psychometrics, Inc.

Anna is featured in a new book, Aim High, Extraordinary Stories of Hispanic & Latina Women by Laura Contreras-Rowe.

Araujo is a native of Calexico, California.  She currently resides in Alhambra.
